Daring consumers

Adventurous taste buds are here to stay and expected to get more exploratory. Consumers are moving further out of their comfort zones, wanting to taste interesting flavours and be a part if multisensory experiences.

Flexitarianism

The all-or-nothing way of eating is ‘so last year’. Instead, consumers are looking to achieve a healthy and sustainable balance between meat and vegetables, meaning brands will have to cater for the growing demand for plant-based options.

Stay snacking

2018 has seen the snacking market grow rapidly, and this is thought to continue into next year. ‘Snacking’ will soon be known as a definitive occasion to suit the trend and to cater for the endless food and drink launches with a snacking claim.

Alternative eats

Replacement ingredients and foods are set to rise as customers look after their own health and sustainability of the planet. Sales of pulses, nuts and seeds have risen as consumers go on the search for alternative proteins – most recently insects are rising in popularity and being used as a protein substitute!

Going green

Following the publicity of packaging and plastics damaging the planets, manufacturers and suppliers will be expected to act and provide sustainable solutions for both their products and packaging. Waste reduction, improved biodegradability and new technology will all be focus points.
