McDonald’s is to roll out table service and cooked-to-order gourmet burgers to 400 UK restaurants in an effort to revamp its image amid intensifying competition from upmarket rivals.
The fast food giant said customers will soon be able to order from digital kiosks at their table after the feature proved successful when it was trialed at 14 locations across Britain.
Kiosks will be included in all newly-transformed restaurants from February in an attempt to modernise McDonald’s restaurants and attract more families. Once ordered on the kiosk, a waiter will bring the order to the customer’s table.
McDonald’s will also double the number of its restaurants selling a new range of premium burgers, called the signature collection.
It comes as the American company continues to do battle with gourmet burger brands such as Five Guys and Shake Shack, and its more established rivals Burger King and KFC.
